The event will mark the return of international beach volleyball to Paris, 14 years after it hosted the last of four Grand Slam tournaments on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.

This year’s tournament will feature a new venue as well, with the iconic and exciting location of the Roland Garros stadium taking on hosting duties.

The iconic Roland Garros stadium will stage the Elite16 tournament in Paris

One of the most popular tennis facilities on the planet, the Roland Garros complex hosts the French Open and has three large-capacity stadiums that can seat between 5,000 and 15,000 people.

“It’s been 15 years since we had a big beach volleyball tournament in France,” said Julien Lyneel, a former indoor national team player for France, who has registered for the event with Remi Bassereau, another former indoor player. “It will be a great opportunity to turn the spotlight on beach volleyball in our country. Roland Garros is such a majestic place and I don't think you can do any better than that for a venue. It is so great to have this event two years before the Olympic Games and I’d like to encourage everyone to come and watch it.”

The five-day tournament, which will offer a total prize purse of USD 300,000, begins on Wednesday, September 28, with the qualifiers for both genders. The main draw will follow on Thursday, September 29, and go into the weekend, when the champions will be decided.
