Alessia Orro combines with Sonia Candi as she leads Vero Volley Monza to a sweep of Il Bisonte of Florence in the Italian league.

Some inspired playmaking, plus three blocks, by Alessia Orro earned the Italy setter the MVP of the match award as she led Vero Volley Monza to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-17) sweep at home of Il Bisonte of Florence in Round 10 of the Italian women's volleyball league, just a few days after the latter stunned the world of volleyball when they brought the world record winning streak of Prosecco Doc Imoco Volley Conegliano to an end.

Poland's Magdalena Stysiak with a match high of 13 points and an attacking efficiency of 58% (11/19) was also key to Monza's win, with the club keeping up the chase of table leaders Conegliano and Igor Gorgonzola Novara.

Defending champions Conegliano, meanwhile, are back on track with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-13) shutout of Bartoccini Fortinfissi Perugia on the back of an MVP performance in the middle by the Netherlands' Robin de Kruijf who attacked for 63% (5/8) and added three aces and two blocks.

More impressive, however, was the return of USA's Kathryn Plummer, who attacked for a staggering 73% (26/22) and bagged a match high 17 points - just one over teammate Paola Egonu's 16.

Ilaria Battistoni, filling in for USA's Micha Hancock, provided another MVP setting performance this weekend in Novara's 3-0 (27-25, 26-16, 25-17) over Megabox Ondulati Del Savio Vallefoglia, as Turkey's Ebrar Karakurt hauled in the match high of 17 points.

Novara had to cancel two set points of Vallefoglia in the first before Karakurt and Caterina Bosetti delivered the last two points to bring the home side ahead.

Novara are six points behind table leaders Conegliano, but with two matches to spare.

In other weekend action, Savino Del Bene Scandicci came back from 24-22 down in the fourth set and cancelled a total of four set points to deny Acqua & Sapone Roma Volley Club a tie-break and finish the match in the Italian capital 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 29-27).

Dominican Republic libero Brenda Castillo produced some solid receiving and swept everything in the back row to earn the MVP of the match award, as Brazil's Natalia Pereira delivered the match high of 23 points - just one more than Rome's Hanna Klimets of Belarus.

Elsewhere, France's Helena Cazaute top-scored with 22 points (attacking 17/28 for 61% and adding four blocks) to earn the MVP of the match award as she led Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri to a 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 31-29, 25-19) win on the road over Volley Bergamo.

Bergamo blew a 24-22 lead and a total of five match points in the third, as they failed to go ahead for the second time in the match.

And Bosca S.Bernardo Cuneo overcame Vbc Trasporti Pesanti Casalmaggiore in a tight 3-1 (26-24, 24-26, 25-17, 25-23) on the road at Cremona.

Lucille Gicquel of France put up an impenetrable block which produced six stuffs and delivered a match for her match high of 26 points to pick up the MVP of the match award.

To wrap up the weekend, in the only five-setter of the round, Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio rallied from two sets down to edge Delta Despar Trentino on the road at Trento 3-2 (18-25, 26-25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-11) - but the point they dropped denied them the opportunity to overtake Scandicc for fourth place in the standings.

Lucia Bosetti, who came in off the bench in the first set and stayed on till the end, was named MVP of the match, but Camilla Mingardi scored the match high of 22 points (including three blocks and two aces) in what turned out to be a blocking party of 14 stuffs by Busto Arsizio (five by Serbia's Jovana Stevanovic) to 12 by Trentino (another five by Eleonora Furlan).
