Kathryn Plummer hits over the Busto Arsizio block of Alexa Gray and Jordyn Poulter as Conegliano again survive five sets to stay undefeated in the Italian league.

By the skin of their teeth defending champions Prosecco Doc Imoco Volley Conegliano have remained undefeated after six matches and sit atop the standings of the Italian women's league, after surviving a five-set scare at home at the PalaVerde on Saturday as they rallied back to edge Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11).

Paola Egonu was back in top-scoring form and prevailed by two points in the race for the match high of 30 between herself and Canada's Alexa Gray who collected 28 for Busto Arsizio - the latter with an impressive 66% (27/41) in attack, in addition to bearing the brunt of the receiving.

But it was a great contribution by USA's Kathryn Plummer in reception and a 17/33 for 52% in attack that made the difference for Conegliano - in addition to a strong killing performance of 12/17 for 71% by the Netherlands' Robin de Kruijf in the middle, for with she was named MVP of the match.

It is the second time this year that Conegliano drop a point, after having gone all the way a week earlier against Vero Volley Monza - but they remain the only undefeated side in the League, while extending their overall winning streak to 71 across all seasons and competitions.

And additionally, Conegliano now have one team less on their heels, after Savino Del Bene Scandicci suffered a setback at home, falling to Monza 3-1 (25-14, 14-25, 26-24, 25-18).

Scandicci could have taken a 2-1 lead, but famously blew a six-point lead at 22-16 in the third - and have now fallen five points behind the table leaders.

But Poland's Magdalena Stysiak, who was named MVP of the game, stepped up and contributed a match high of 23 points, including four blocks.

All the while, Anna Danesi from the middle was attacking for 69% (9/13) and adding another four stuffs, as Katerina Zakchaiou of Cyprus was getting 6/6 in attack and three more blocks.

This leaves only Igor Gorgonzola Novara in pursuit of Conegliano, now just one point shy of the top of the standings after downing Bosca S.Bernardo Cuneo 3-1 (26-24, 25-14, 22-25, 25-22).

Cuneo rallied from 17-12 and 20-16 down in the first to reach set point at 23-24, before Novara reacted to take the next three points.

USA's Haleigh Washington registered an astounding 81% (13/16) in attack and added three blocks and two aces, sharing the match high of 18 points with Cuneo's Lucille Gicquel of France.

Yet more intense tie-break drama in Round 6 was played out at Urbino, where hosts Megabox Ondulati Del Savio Vallefoglia also went all the way at home against Delta Despar Trentino - coming back from two sets down and escaping with an epic 3-2 (17-25, 18-25, 27-25, 25-16, 23-21).

The home side built a healthy seven-point lead by 22-15 in the third, but it still took them four set points to stay alive in the game. They then needed eight match balls in the fifth, while fending off one of Trentino (at 21-22) to secure their second win of the season.

Russia's Tatiana Kosheleva again led Vallefoglia, scoring 25 points, as Serbia's Ana Bjelica made her debut with the side. The match high of 27, however, came from Trentino's Vittoria Piani.

At the PalaBarton, Volley Bergamo came back from a set down to outlast local side Bartoccini-Fortinfissi Perugia 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-6), despite a match high of 28 points (though just 26 kills from a massive 68 swings for a poor 38%) by Valentina Diouf.

USA's Khalia Lanier led the scoring for Bergamo with 20 points as Germany's Marie Schoelzel contributed four blocks and Sara Loda kept it all going in the back row.

Elsewhere over the weekend, Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri shut out Acqua & Sapone Roma Volley Club 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-17) as Belgium's Kaja Grobelna for the winning side and Belarus' Hanna Klimets for the losers shared top-scoring honours on 17 points each.

And Il Bisonte of Florence outblocked Vbc Trasporti Pesanti Casalmaggiore 11 to 1 for a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 27-25) sweep at home in Scandicci. Four blocks each by France's Amandha Sylves and the Netherlands' Yvonne Belien plus some well-distributed scoring all-around did the trick for Il Bisonte - though the match high of 13 points came from Casalmaggiore's Ellen Braga of Brazil.
